In September 2004, Ontario Minister of Health, George Smitherman, appointed Hall to the Health Results Team to assist the government in co-ordinating and implementing changes to the health care system. She is the team lead of community relations.

From 1997- 2002, Hall chaired the National Strategy on Community Safety and Crime Prevention for the federal department of justice.

Her municipal experience began in 1985, when she was elected for the first of three terms as City Councilor for a downtown Toronto ward. From 1994 to 1997, Barbara Hall served as Mayor of the City of Toronto. Prior to entering public life, Hall ran a general law practice in Toronto, was a probation officer in Cleveland, Ohio and a youth worker in Nova Scotia and Ontario.
