disorders and depression are leading causes
of workplace disability and absenteeism and
touch most of us through friends, family and
co-workers. Research is finding closer links
between our hormones and how our brain and moods
work, leading to promising new treatments.

The
15th Anniversary of the Genesis Awareness Breakfast
was successfully held on Thursday, October 20, 2005
at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Concert Hall.
Dr.
Alan Bocking, M.D., FRCSC, Mt. Sinai Hospital,
the University Health Network and Genesis Chairman,
set the tone for the Anniversary Breakfast celebration
with the announcement of a $50,000
leadership donation from the TD Bank Financial Group
in support of the newly launched Genesis
Fellowship Programme. Alan Convery,
Manager, Community Relations, Corporate and Public Affairs,
presented the $50,000 cheque to Dr. Alan Bocking
and to Dr. John Kingdom, Maternal-Fetal
Medicine, University of Toronto on behalf of the TD
Bank Financial Group.
Special
Guest Speaker and Genesis friend, Dr.
Marla Shapiro, M.D., CCFP, MHSc, FRCP, FCFP(C)
inspired all Breakfast guests with her very personal
and most recent struggle and subsequent success with
breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Breakfast
2005 Keynote Speaker, Dr. Sarah Romans,
M.B. CH.B., M.D., FRCPC, Department of Psychiatry, Sunnybrook
& Women’s College Health Sciences Centre and
the University of Toronto presented recent research
findings associated with Mood Disorders
and Depression.
Genesis
Vice Chair, Dr. Jennifer Blake, M.D.,
FRCSC, Sunnybrook and Women’s College Health Sciences
Centre served as Breakfast Moderator
and graciously thanked Breakfast 2005 Corporate Sponsors
